How to Start Goat Farming in Pakistan — Complete Beginner Guide 2026
Why Goat Farming is the Best Livestock Business in Pakistan
Goat farming is one of the most profitable livestock businesses you can start in Pakistan — even with limited capital. Unlike cattle farming that requires heavy investment, goat farming can literally start with just one goat and grow into a thriving business.
At Rumi Goat Farm in Sakrand, Sindh, we have seen firsthand how proper goat farming transforms lives. Our CEO Sohail Chandio started with a small herd and built what is now one of the first modern goat farms in Sindh.

Step 1: Choose Your Goat Breed
The breed you choose determines your profits. Here are the best goat breeds for farming in Pakistan:
- Beetal: Best all-rounder — excellent meat, good milk, high demand. Most popular in Punjab and Sindh.
- Jamnapari: Tallest breed, excellent milk production (3-4 liters/day). Great for dairy-focused farms.
- Kamori: Native to Sindh, beautiful spotted pattern, good for meat. High cultural value.
- Teddy: Small breed, very fertile (often twins/triplets), fast maturity. Good for beginners with less space.
- Nachi: Known for dancing gait, moderate meat and milk. Popular in Punjab.
For beginners, we recommend starting with Beetal goats — they are hardy, have good market demand, and are relatively easy to manage.
Step 2: Start Small — Even One Goat Works
You do not need lakhs of rupees to start. Here is a realistic plan:
- Minimum start: 1 pregnant doe (PKR 60,000-80,000)
- Small farm: 5-10 does + 1 buck (PKR 3-5 lakh)
- Medium farm: 20-30 does + 2 bucks (PKR 10-15 lakh)
A single doe gives 2 kids per cycle, with 2 cycles possible in 15 months. From 10 does, you can have 30+ goats within a year. That is how wealth multiplies in goat farming.
Step 3: Build a Proper Shed
Your goat shed does not need to be expensive, but it must be:
- Dry: Goats hate moisture — ensure good drainage and elevated flooring
- Ventilated: Cross-ventilation is essential in Sindh and Punjab summers
- Shaded: Protection from direct sun and rain
- Spacious: At least 15-20 sq ft per adult goat
- Clean: Daily cleaning prevents disease — this is non-negotiable

Step 4: Feeding Plan
Feed is the biggest recurring cost in goat farming, but also the most important investment:
- Green fodder: Berseem, lucerne, corn stalks (60% of diet)
- Dry fodder: Wheat straw, dry berseem (20% of diet)
- Concentrate feed: Wheat bran, cotton seed cake, corn, minerals (20% of diet)
- Water: Clean water 3-4 times daily, more in summer
At Rumi Goat Farm, we prepare our own feed mix to ensure optimal nutrition. Proper feeding means healthier goats, faster weight gain, and more profit.
Step 5: Vaccination & Health Management
Vaccination is absolutely essential. More goats die from preventable diseases than any other cause. Follow this schedule:
- PPR vaccine at 3 months
- Enterotoxemia every 6 months
- FMD (Foot & Mouth) every 6 months
- Deworming every 3 months
- Regular hoof trimming
Keep a relationship with a good veterinary doctor. At our farm, we work with Dr. Abdul Latif Rind for expert veterinary care.
Step 6: Breeding for Profit
Smart breeding multiplies your herd rapidly:
- Keep 1 quality buck per 20-25 does
- Breed does at 12-15 months of age (when they reach 60% adult weight)
- Maintain breeding records for every animal
- Select the best kids for breeding, sell the rest
Step 7: Marketing & Selling
You can sell goats through:
- Direct to customers: Best margins, build relationships
- Bakra mandi: Seasonal markets, especially before Eid ul-Adha
- Online platforms: OLX, Facebook, dedicated farm websites like ours
- Wholesale buyers: Butchers and meat shops for regular sales
Profitability: How Much Can You Earn?
With 10 quality Beetal does:
- Annual kids produced: ~25-30
- Average selling price per kid (6-8 months): PKR 40,000-60,000
- Annual gross revenue: PKR 10-18 lakh
- Feed & care costs: PKR 4-6 lakh
- Net profit: PKR 6-12 lakh per year
This is significantly better than most jobs — and the herd keeps growing.
